Objective: To study nurse manager's roles in health promotion management among nurse administrators. Delphi technique was used for data collection. Eighteen qualified expert nurses were purposively sampled to participate in this study. In the first round six expert nurses were in-depth interviewed and the information they provided using to develop a 5-scale questionnaire which was used in gathering data for the second and the third round response. Data were analyed for item agreement, based on criteria of: proportional response rate of ≥70% for each round, median of ≥3.5 and inter-quartile range of ≤1.5.
Results: Two levels of nurse managers’ roles in health promoting management were reported. At the level of chair or nurse supervisor of nursing division/department 5 major roles and 36 activities were mentioned. At the level of head ward or head of community health center 7 major roles and 40 activities. Five major roles were similar in both levels: 1) administrator 2) supervisor 3) coordinator 4) data information management and 5) leader. In addition, head ward or head of community health center level recognized the role models and change agents.
Conclusion: Our data might be beneficial to develop guidelines for nurse administrator roles and functions to achieve successful health promotion in hospitals and communities in the future.
