Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between demographic factors and unsuitable medication use behaviour of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients.
Material and Methods: Subjects were 180 CKD patients who met sample criteria, selected by simple sampling. Instruments used were a demographic data form and a medication use behaviour data form. Frequency, mean, standard deviation, Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient and chi square were employed for data analysis.
Results: Medication use behaviour was at a good level in 77.2% of the sample. Unsuitable medication use behaviour such as rational use of medication was at a poor level in 52.2%. Correct behaviour when having adverse drug reactions occurred was at a poor level in 25%. Correct behaviour when taking drug was at a poor level in 18.9%.
The relationships between demographic factors such as age, level of education and unsuitable medication use behaviour were statistically significant at  p   <   0.01. The relationships between sex, route of payment and unsuitable medication use behaviour were statistically significant  at p  < 0.05.
Conclusion: Health education about rational use of medication, correct behaviour regarding adverse drug reactions and correct behaviour when eating drug is important for CKD patients that analyzing by age, education level, sex and route of payment.
