The prevalence of enterobiasis among children in Khlong Toei Community, Khlong Toei District, Bangkok
Abstract
A prevalence survey of enterobiasis in children aged 1-10 years in Khlong Toei Community, Khlong Toei District, Bangkok, was undertaken in February 2002. There were 1,252 subjects, 655 males and 597 females. Diagnosis was done by means of transparent tape swab technique. It revealed that 1) enterobiasis was found in 21.25% of the children; 2) there was no significant difference in prevalence between males and females; 3) age of the children, family income and family education were significantly related to prevalence (p < 0.05). 4) family occupation had no relation with the prevalence (p > 0.05). From this study it is suggested that public health officials should organize treatment and provide knowledge of enterobiasis among the Khlong Toei community to prevent distribution and reinfection in this area.
