Objective: To examine the levels and sources of happiness and to compare the happiness of students who were studying in various programs at Walailak University.
Material and Method: This cross-sectional study collected data from 381 students who were studying in various undergraduate programs at Walailak University during the academic year of 2015. The reliability of questionnaires was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient with an alpha of 0.85 for the questionnaire on levels of happiness and 0.80 for sources of happiness questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA.
Results: Among the 381 students, the mean score of happiness was at a high level. In addition, all of the nine aspects of happiness were rated at high levels. The highest mean score of happiness was for having a warm family. The highest mean score for source of happiness came from having equality and no discrimination based on place of origin. When comparing the happiness of students studying in different study programs, it was found that there was no evidence of any difference in happiness (p-value>0.05).
Conclusion: Students who were studying at Walailak University were perceived to have a high level of happiness.
