We evaluated a training program for the front-line personnel of Songklanagarind Hospital, which included the sections of Public Relation Unit, Medical Record Unit, Patient Transport Unit, Security Unit and Out-patient Nursing Unit. One hundred and thirty-six hospital personnel and 510 sample clients were interviewed using self-completion questionnaires.
We found that the objectives of the training program were appropriate to the hospital policy. Inputs to the program, viz. media, resource persons and the curriculum were suitable. The trainees were highly satisfied. The contents of curriculum were rated as very useful and practical. The resource persons could teach very well.
After the training program, the hospital personnel had quite good attitudes toward the clients, except for those clients who were trying for a shortcut and easily lost their temper.
Clients also rated the service with very high satisfaction. However, they perceived that the number of personnel was inadequate and the leaflets for patient self-care were not enough.
These comments should be taken into consideration by the hospital administrators.
