Menopausal women at menopausal clinic, Songklanagarind Hospital
Abstract
To ducument the basic information of menopause. The menopausal records of 928 women (52.8%) who attended the menopausal clinic at Songklanagarind Hospital during January 1997 to December 2002 were reviewed. It was found that 34.6% of the subjects were 46-50 years old. The majority, 69.7%, lived in Songkhla Province. Thirty-nine percent were in government service and 22.0% were housewives. Thirty-three percent of them graduated with a bachelor degree or higher. Seventy-six percent were married, 21.6% had surgical menopause. The mean age of natural menopause was 49.4 ฑ 3.6 years. As for menopausal symptoms, 81% of women had forgetfulness and muscle/joint pains while 60.6% had hot flushes. Smokers and occasional drinkers comprised in 1.6% and 11.8% respectively. Low body mass index was recorded in 9.8% and overweight in 27.3%. Hypercholesterolemia was found in 42.5% of the subjects and hyperglycemia in 5.9%. Hormonal replacement therapy was prescribed in 44.1%.
