Effectiveness of health education for the patient with hyperlipidemia attending the general practice clinic in Songklanagarind Hospital
Abstract
This quasi-experimental reseasech aims to 1) determine the effectiveness of health education in hyperlipidemia patients at Songklanagarind Hospital, 2) compare the cholesterol levels between a control and experimental group. The 60 subjects with hyperlipidemia were selected by simple random sampling with replacement and divided equally into two groups. All the subjects were given a pre-test of their knowledge and perception of hyperlipidemia as well as a blood examination. For 3-6 months after the intervention all subjects were followed up three times with a blood investigation and were given a post test of their knowledge, perception of hyperlipidemia.
Results: Before the start of the intervention there was no statistical significance in demographic data, high density lipoprotein cholesteral (HDL-C), cholesterol (TC) or triglyceride (TG) levels between the two groups. There were statistically significant differences in body weight and cholesterol, trigiyceride and HDL-C in the blood between the experimental group and control groups.
Conclusion: The nurses should regulate appropriately the hyperlipidemia patient's health patterns to improve their health.
