Dusit Supawatanawong

Abstract

This retrospective description study aimed to compare the drug prices by tender process in Songklanagarind Hospital. One hundred and fifty three items of the new generic drug prices were collected during the period of October 1, 1997 to September 30, 2012 and 440 items of the old generic drug prices were collected during the period of October 1, 2005 to September 30, 2012 from the procurement database at the Pharmacy Division. Data were analysed using the descriptive statistics percentage, average, median and standard deviation and using inferential statistics for hypothesis testing.
The results showed when the tender process was implemented and the new generic drugs were launched, the price offered on average was 49.59% lower than the previous price. The prices were on average 44.37% lower than the innovator price. As a result showed when the vendors increased, the average price was reduced about 11.52%. Among the various elements potential associated with drug price, the dosage forms and pharmacological group of drugs were statistically significant. (p=0.005, 0.005, 0.00 and p=0.043, 0.043, 0.00)
